Marshall Noice
Marshall Noice began his
artistic career as a photographer. In fact, he earned his living taking
pictures for 23 years. Some of the work was figurative, but most of it was
landscape photography.
During the summer of 1977 he had the extreme privilege of being Ansel Adams'
workshop assistant, an experience that profoundly affected his life. It
happened at an auspicious time when Noice was just getting into photography.
He had to sell the few pieces of equipment he owned to raise the funds
necessary to travel to Carmel, CA, to work with the late, great master.
"I learned how to see light from Ansel Adams," he explains. "Adams was a
great teacher. I really learned how to recognize landscapes through
photography. I feel that my experience in photography has helped me to
develop a heightened sensibility toward landscapes."
"I knew I would be ready to paint landscapes when I retired from
photography," he says. "But the shift happened more suddenly than I
anticipated."
"I experience a deep sigh of relief when I start a painting," he explains.
"This is what I love to do. I paint for creative expression and for the
simple joy of it."
Marshall lives in Kalispell,
Montana with his wife Jackie and their son, three daughters and their
horses. When he is not creating his intuitive landscapes of the West in oil
on canvas and pastel, Marshall maintains an extensive travel schedule from
Baltimore to Tulsa to Chicago to Santa Fe and Jackson, WY. His work can be
seen in galleries, museums and collections, both private and corporate
throughout the world, as well as Murphy - Jubb Fine Art
in Missoula, MT.
