Born in San Francisco in 1933,
Paul Harth lived in Houston, Miami, Cleveland, New
Orleans and Memphis working as an artists’ model, shrimp boat operator, magazine
publisher, and public relations executive from 1960 to 1974. He was self -
educated, on the job, as an entrepreneur during a period of self discovery both
for himself and for the country. He has worked in print making, theater,
ceramics and wood sculpture, using mostly found objects. A trait he still
continues, as he collects materials for his work. Paul creates in his apartment
that he has occupied in San Francisco’s teaming Mission District for the past
thirty years. Urban Folk Art can be the only term one can use to describe the
art of Paul Harth, a true outsider. This is his
first exhibit of original art in over forty years.
